Caleb turns one!
4/28/2009

Well, it's been a while since we've updated this page, and little baby Caleb is now a year old! As you can imagine, he's changed a lot in the last six months. He's gone from eating a little baby cereal to pretty much everything we eat (in smaller pieces, of course). He had a three-week bout with multiple ear infections around nine months and actually lost weight, but he's come roaring back with his newfound appetite and just about made up for it in the last month. At his one-year appointment, he weighed 20lb, 5oz, was 31-1/4 inches long. That's 20th and 90th percentile, respectively (and his head size is 95th!) So, as we already knew, he's really tall and a relative lightweight (no change there). But if you compare him now to pictures from just a few months ago, he's definitely starting to pack on a little chub.

Caleb's a master crawler these days, pulling up (and often climbing) on just about everything, and walking while holding our hands. He loves bikes and going for rides in his new bike seat (though he's not a huge fan of the helmet) and going for walks in the stroller. When he's not strapped into a seat somewhere, the boy does not stop moving! It's no wonder he can't gain weight quickly--he's about as active as any baby his age...all the time! He's learning more words every day, though "elbow" is his favorite by far (he's quick to show you where it is, too). We had a birthday party/cookout at the park, and while he did seem to enjoy the cake, balloons are definitely the highlight of any birthday celebration. All in all, he's a pretty happy little boy--a big eater and good sleeper who loves to play and explore and learn. Mom and dad are very proud and happy!

Half a year already!

It's hard to believe, but Caleb is now 6 months old! The latest stats show he has reverted a bit. He weighed 16lb, 4oz and was 27 1/2" tall, which means he's "only" in the 90th percentile in height (down from 97!), but he's back down to 25th for weight. He's been eating cereal (oatmeal) for over a week now and sweet potatoes for the last few days. The doctor said that's good...but don't stop until he's full! He's definitely strong and healthy, but apparently it wouldn't hurt him to chub up a bit. So Jill's been stuffing him as full as possible, with the most obvious result so far being an increase in spitting up. Oh, well.

Overall he's doing well--sleeping fairly well at night and napping longer (though less often). He's still pretty high-strung a lot of the time, though, which looks to be a pretty fundamental part of his personality. So we're just getting used to it. Just like his parents, Caleb enjoys the outdoors: he loves the pool, the beach, and the baby swings at the park. He still seems to be getting closer to crawling--we'll find him up on all fours occasionally in his crib (and there's a video of him doing it as well, with a little help from the couch). He has two teeth so far, though it looks like one or two on top might be getting close. Also, it's looking more and more like those big blue eyes are here to stay. We're still putting up pictures all of the time, so definitely check them out!

Tooth number 2 is on the way . . .
9/15/2008

After nearly two weeks of hoping Caleb's grouchiness might be due to more teething, he's now cutting his second tooth! Dad was able to get a semi-clear picture that shows the first one, and you can just make out the second one, barely beneath the surface. (Just a day later, we were able to feel the second one breaking through.)

You can click on the picture above to see the full-size version in the gallery.

BREAKING NEWS!!!
9/02/2008

The last few days have been a little tough on Caleb . . . not to mention Mom. Caleb hasn't napped well and has been pretty fussy. And today he was running a fever of almost 100 degrees. But it turns out that's all because he was busy cutting his first tooth! It's pretty hard to see (even if you can get his mouth open and his tongue out of the way!) But you can definitely feel it. We'll have pictures up as soon as we can get some!

Four-month update
8/26/2008

The latest figures are in! After my 4-month checkup, I'm 14lb, 8.5oz (finally up to 50th percentile!) and a whopping 27" long (over 97th percentile . . . almost off the chart!) Aside from a cold a couple of weeks ago, I've been strong and healthy.

One of my favorite things lately is standing up (with Mom or Dad helping me balance, of course). I'm not crawling yet, but I can roll (including back-to-front now) and squirm enough to move around on my playmat and my crib. Oh, and I've discovered how to talk more loudly. I practice that all day long (much to Mom's delight). I still love playing with all my toys, and I'm really into reading books now, too (well, Mom and Dad do most of the actual reading, but I pay attention pretty well). In case you haven't heard it from them directly, Mom and Dad are awfully proud of me!

And as always, don't forget to keep checking for new pictures and videos!

Three-month update
7/29/2008

Another month gone by, and I'm doing great! I'm over 13 pounds now, still growing like a weed. The big adventure this month was a trip to Atlanta . . . which came with a lot of firsts. First time staying away from home (besides the hospital, of course), first real hike, first time meeting my cousins and aunt/uncles on my dad's side, and--the main reason for the trip--meeting my great-grandfather for the first time. Boy, was he excited! The plane wasn't TOO bad--I think I did pretty well. Fortunately I'm so cute no one could be that mad at me for a little fussing!

Aside from the trip, I'm rolling over more and more easily, talking ALL the time, even laughing sometimes. I also started to play with toys . . . sometimes I can grab them and hold on for a while. I've also gotten really good at dividing my napping into several 20-30 minute mini-naps all day long. My mom REALLY loves that. (Hey, look! I've even learned sarcasm!) But through it all I've managed to get even cuter. It's been a busy month!

Two-month update
6/23/2008

Today (June 23) was my two-month appointment. I really started pouring on the pounds (ok, ounces) over the last month. I now weigh 10 pounds, 9 1/2 ounces, and I'm 23 1/2 inches tall (that's right, almost two whole feet!) Mom and Dad are happy because I've been sleeping a 6-7 hour block most nights lately. The last few weeks have been pretty good all around, really . . . and there are lots of pictures to check out, if you haven't already. The only downside . . . I had to start immunizations today. That wasn't so good. But mom and dad are spreading them out a little, so I only had one shot today. Thanks guys!

My latest favorite thing (in addition to eating and staring at the ceiling fan) is bathtime! Man, do I love a good bath! I also like to smile and "talk" a lot...occasionally at my parents. I guess that's about it for now.

One-month update
5/27/2008

Well, I had my one-month appointment on May 22, and so far, so good! The doctor says I'm still a little jaundiced, but he's not worried. At 8lb 1.5 oz, I'm still a little light for my age, and I'm pretty tall--22 1/2 inches. But I'm getting bigger! As mom can tell you, I've got a pretty good appetite. I'm starting to notice my toys and stuff, too--they're pretty neat. We go for a walk most nights, which is good, because I really enjoy my carrier. Between going to church, going to the store, and having people over, I've made lots of friends. If you haven't seen me yet, well, what's the holdup?

Caleb is born!
4/22/2008

I'm here!!! I was born on April 22, 2008, at 4:49pm. I am 7 pounds. 8 ounces, and 20 1/2 inches long. Mom, dad, and, I are doing great!
